A MUST HAVE gear bag for Strobists!

Today I'd like to talk about the Golf bag. I know, what's a Golf bag got to do with photography? We'll get to that in a minute, first a few words about the Golf Bag.
The first golf bags were used in the 1880's when golf enthusiasts needed to carry a little more "stuff". They were very small though, only about 4 1/2 inches wide, and heavy. As the years went by golfers realized the need for carrying even more "stuff" so they evolved. After World War II the bags got bigger and roomier, incorporating zippers and straps with pockets made form lighter materials all for the sake of...you guessed it, carrying MORE STUFF.
Ok so now fast forward to your modern day Strobist. What is a Strobist? Well to keep it short, it is a photographer that uses small, remotely triggered, off camera lighting for the purpose of creating incredible images on the go. Now to get to where you need to go , when on the go, sometimes requires a bit of trekking. That is when you need a Light Caddy.
A Light Caddy is a bag, much like ... you guessed it, a golf bag. A Strobist can use the Light Caddy to haul all their "stuff" easily. It is a great piece of equipment and it allows you to keep up to 4 strobes attached to stands and triggers (such as pocket wizards) set up at all times. So when you get to where you need to go for your next shoot, you just pull a stand out, open it, and you're ready to shoot. It has lots of room for all the things you'll need like pockets for extra batteries and brackets, Gels or diffusers. Room for chargers and umbrellas. You know..Stuff. But not just any stuff, the stuff you'll need to get the job done and without the long trip back to the car. And these bags are very strong too.
I have had my Light Caddy for about 2 years now and I love it. If you shoot weddings and like to be prepared, this bag makes it easy to bring the extra gear. Maybe you do on location shoots and find yourself out and about, you'll love this bag too. It has wheels and a convenient kick stand that allows the bag to lean at an angle, making removal of your stands very easy. So stop breaking your back and wasting time on unnecessary set up. Get yourself a Light Caddy!

Welcome Corey -Newborn Session

Baby Corey was born on January 27 at 6:48 in the morning. He weighed in at six pounds six ounces and was 18 and three quarter inches long. Needless to say, Mom, Dad, and big brother Desmond were excited to welcome him in to our world... and so am I!     Corey is sooo cute. He has those adorable baby cheeks that are just too irresistible, and look at all that hair. He will be handsome for sure.
I first met Corey's family about a year and a half ago when they found me through a Google search. They were new to the area and wanted some fall family pictures to preserve the newness of their family. About a year later I was contacted again. This time to document this families transformation, you see Mommy was having a baby...again. We met once again at the Morris Arboretum in Philadelphia. We spent some time there talking and taking pictures and I was getting to know the family just a little bit more. Moving on to February, we met yet again. This time it was at their house for the newborn session. This was where I met Corey. He is a fine looking baby. He was mostly cooperative and aside from a little power glitch (LOL) everything went well. Of course I am always happy to get a good review for my work and this time it was beyond my expectations. Corey's mom cried...WOW.  She wrote this...at about 3:30 am

"Hi Craig,
As you can tell by the time that I am sending this message I am up with Corey:) I love the photos! I was actually moved to tears looking at Corey and Desmond...
God is so good!

Thanks for your time and for sharing your gift with us!
With warm regards,
Octavia

It has been both a pleasure and an honor to be the man behind the lens for these pictures. Here are a few of them, I hope you like them.

Toms Passing and What It Meant To Me

Today I attended a memorial service to honor and remember Tom Riley. Tom wasn't famous that I know of and he didn't invent anything or become some wealthy mogul that people would be familiar with. Yet Tom will be remembered to many as a Husband, Dad, Brother, Brother in Christ, a Helper, Teacher, Friend, a Train enthusiast, and perhaps in some ways the least on a very long list, a Photographer.
This of course is not to under-mind Tom's ability as a Photographer but instead to explain how amazing a privilege it is that we as Photographers have. While Tom had many friends and family who loved him and whose lives he touched in various ways, he touched the lives of many others in a way that goes unnoticed. People who might pass by him and not even remember him at all. You see in addition to his day job Tom was a Wedding Photographer. Tom photographed couples on what has to be describe as one of the most significant days of their lives. Using his creativity, knowledge and know how to evaluate and judge the environment of the occasion, he would press the shutter button of his camera at just the right moment and capture an image. He stopped the hands of time as he clicked that button and simultaneously captured the emotion of that moment as well. Now, frozen in time in a photo album or on the wall of some home he's never been to in a town he may not know, lived in by people he never met are the children and children's children of those couples and they are enjoying photographs that he created. They tell a story, a piece of a bigger story about the lives of two people, who after meeting and falling in love, decided to marry and perhaps start a family together. Whether the couple or Tom himself knew it at that time, Tom was creating that families first heirlooms.
Yes, Tom did indeed touch the lives of many. This explains perfectly what I love about photography. I do wish I knew Tom better. I would probably ask him a lot of questions about his picture taking years. I wonder if he ever had a sense of how much he mattered in the lives of those he photographed. I do. I love knowing that although my time on this planet is short, what I do here has the ability to speak volumes both now and after I'm gone.

New Business Cards!!

So today I received my pretty new business cards. I ordered them from http://www.uprinting.com/ and I am very happy with them. I love the die-cut corners and the matte finish.  The company doesn't guarantee color match though so the color is a bit off. But I can live with it for now.  So what do ya think?
