Winter's not so bad...

Ok so I know that most people don't think of getting their engagement pictures done in the snow, rain or sleet...but how about all of that in a single day? Well Last weekend I had the pleasure of spending most of the day with a couple who didn't mind at all. To say they were troopers doesn't really give them enough credit. I mean it was nasty outside. So we did what we could to keep warm. We began near the Adventure Aquarium on the Camden water front almost underneath the Ben Franklin Bridge and then we hopped in our vehicles and drove off to Haddonfield NJ for some more pictures. A few warm calories by way of Starbucks and later on we grabbed a bite at the British Chip Shop We even ducked into a church for some warmth. So yes it was cold and wet but we had lots of fun and I got the chance to know these new friends just a little bit more. Boy oh boy do I love what I do... even if the weather is lousy.

2014 Wedding Trends that you might want to plan for

As the owner and main photographer of Salex Photography I am very interested in this years wedding trends. As a bride or potential bride for 2014 you most likely are as well. So here we are just two weeks away from Valentines Day 2014 and as this year starts out we look to new trends in Weddings... of course this happens every year at this time with all the buzz being about what is trending for this years nuptials. Some of them are simply awesome... or so at least I think so. Colors are going to pop. Not like a rainbow or the cartoon network though but more like a highlight of color standing out in a see of subdued palettes. Kinda Like THIS.... Temporary tattoos as favors, like the ones seen HERE...are so cool! Slow motion photo booths will be hot... while at the same time it seems elegance and the formal bridal portraits are back in vogue. Invitations are also getting a makeover it seems. It seems that a lot of this years brides are passing on the 5"X7" standard and opting for something on the dainty size. Something little yet precious. I'm seeing more about the softer side of pinks and other popular colors. For me this isn't all that trendy. I witnessed a fair amount of that last year as well. In fact my last blog post was of such a wedding I was fortunate enough to provide the wedding photography for. It happened last summer at the Running Deer Golf Club in southern New Jersey and while the day was many things, including Hot & Wet...it was so very pretty in pink. Here is something I like, meals to be served elegantly in family style. That's right, food on the table for all to share. I love this approach. I've been to my share of weddings and while the food is usually very good there are those times you would rather have a little more veggies and less potatoes..just sayin'. So finally, the last thing I found really encouraging is the UNPLUGGED wedding trend. Yes, Unplugged as in check your phone and devices at the door please. As a wedding photographer, I have had my share of timeless picture opportunities made not-so timeless, if not ruined, by someone or almost every one trying to get that once in a lifetime picture to go viral on the web using their cell phone or ipad. It is finally becoming not so cool of a thing to have in your wedding album. It's the modern equivalent of big hair in the 80's. Besides being visual distractions, these tech gadgets get in the way of your guests being totally immersed in the beauty of the day. The beauty that you have most likely spent countless hours and dollars planning. It's not too much to ask that they enjoy it is it? So you might like some of these ideas... or not so much. Either way, I would love to hear from you if you are planning a wedding for this year or next if you still haven't found your photographer. Head on over to my WEBSITE or find me on "The KNOT".
